You can take the liberal away from the 1960s, but you cannot take the 1960s out of the liberal as we learned when we saw the Stephen Stills-Judy Collins show on Mother’s Day Sunday in Bakersfield

SPRING SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #201 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-SEVENTY- FOUR DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

We loved seeing Stephen Stills on Mother’s Day Sunday night
Bakersfield, CA, 05-16-2018 Wednesday: I mentioned this past Tuesday that my wife, Alicia, and I went to the Spectrum Amphitheater on Mother’s Day Sunday to see Stephen Stills and Judy Collins in concert.  Opening for them was an extraordinary gentleman named Kenny White, an entertaining singer-songwriter-pianist-guitarist-harmonica player if ever there was one.
We enjoyed Stills-Collins as the show brought back many memories and then some although some songs we hoped we might hear never made it into the setlist.  Still, hearing “For What It’s Worth,” “Bluebird,” “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” and some others was refreshing as the preceding Saturday, we saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse in concert at the Fox Theater and were somewhat unfulfilled.
For one thing, the two musicians who comprised the opening act were not that great and then Neil Young and Crazy Horse gave us a spirited performance but an albeit brief one as well as one lacking the songs we hoped we might hear.
We did not hear “Cowgirl in the Sand” nor did we hear “Down by the River.”  Nowhere was there “Southern Man,” or any of the others with which, we associate Neil Young.  Yes, I realize it was Crazy Horse but since the members of that group have been on countless Neil Young solo efforts, could we have not heard some of the tunes we would have loved to hear?  Maybe “Mr. Soul?”
The older acts have us by a death grip in that if we want to see someone such as Neil Young-Crazy Horse or Stephen Stills and Judy Collins, to see them we must set aside any hopes just to be able to ‘see them’ and to be able to maintain the memories.
Now, Judy Collins slipped in numerous jabs at President Trump sans mentioning him by name, but it did not take someone with less than a third-grade education not to know who the f**k she was slamming.  Then, when she did a song for the “Dreamers,” the crowd went wild, clapping and hooting like America is the most racist, bigoted country in the world.
Even more embarrassing, a plant in the audience yelled “thank you, Judy” for celebrating the Dreamers, someone President Trump, at least in their view, punishes.  Folks, the Democrats are the ones buggering the Dreamers, not President Trump and the Republicans but Ms. Collins is too prejudiced to make the distinction.
She did not do “Send in the Clowns.”  My wife was SO disappointed.  At least, Neil Young did not talk politics; I guess that was the trade-off plus a crowd full of drunks at the Fox.
Ah, well, here are our paintings for today, please note- Beverly never fails to woo her fans.  Here we go:

Great paintings to be sure, something we present here every Wednesday to the delight of Beverly’s fans.  We hope you enjoyed the stunning selection we have for you.
As for the Stephen Stills-Judy Collins show, we expect Stills to mention the politics of the time as it made the Buffalo Springfield the band it was, one in which, the politics of the time inspired its various members to strive for the stars.  Ms. Collins, on the other hand, well, I guess you can take the liberal away from the 1960s, but you can never take the 1960s and political slamming out of the liberal- sad.
Please, make sure you join me over at the main blog as we continue going over the upcoming June 5 Primary Election here in California.  Gonna be great- I hope.  See you soon.
Thank you!

In 1981, Savoy Brown returned with the next effort and a revamped lineup featuring Kim Simmonds (guitars/keyboards/harmonica/vocals), Keith Boyce (drums), Steve Lynch & Barry Paul (guitars), Ralph Mormon (vocals), and John Humphrey (bass).  The band was moving in a different direction with which to keep up with the times but the same smoking guitar assault by the leader kept the band grounded.  “Rock and Roll Warriors,” is a fine addition to the growing discography of the British blues band, which is why we urge everyone to use the link we provide you here, so you can embark on a digital journey to the world’s greatest online marketplace, Amazon.com.  When you arrive there, pick out the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you—you will be glad you did.

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

In 1981Savoy Brown returned with the next effort and a revamped lineup featuring Kim Simmonds (guitars/keyboards/harmonica/vocals), Keith Boyce (drums), Steve Lynch & Barry Paul (guitars), Ralph Mormon (vocals), and John Humphrey (bass).

SPECIAL ALBUM(S) OF THE DAY:

In March 1966the Lovin’ Spoonful released their sophomore effort, the acclaimed “Daydream.”  Once again, the lineup was the same of John Sebastian (vocals, guitars, autoharp, harmonicas, and organ), Steve Boone (bass and vocals), Joe Butler (drums, percussion, and vocals), and Zal Yanovsky (guitars and vocals).  The title cut was a big hit as was “You Didn’t have to be so Nice.”  We love this album and celebrate the talent of this unique New York City, innovative group.  Please, use the link we provide you here, so you can go to Amazon.com where you can get it in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you.
