THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CULINARY POLITICS-ELEMENTAL NEWS OF THE DAY COMMENTARY-OPINION-SPORTS-FOOD SERVICE FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2017 BY CHEF PEDRO MUÑOZ

FALL SESSION 2017

HANUKKAH CELEBRATION 2017 DAY TWO

BLOG POST #179 AT THE AICP-END

After losing her leg, Beverly had to redirect her talents…
San Diego, CA, 12-13-2017 Wednesday: I love the talent of Beverly Carrick, the woman was an amazing artist and her works will live on forever.  I feel proud to be able to do this blog 1-2 times per year because viewing a batch of 15 Carrick originals is something that warms the cockles of my aged heart.
Beverly had an enormous repertoire of things she could choose as subjects to paint, whether they be magnificent deserts, floral scenes, people going about their daily business, fabulous breathtaking seascapes, monumental mountain scenes, landscapes, birds, you name it, she applied them to canvass using oil paints.
If you know the story of Beverly, when she was young—prior to getting the bone cancer that would claim her leg—she wanted to be a dancer, perhaps a ballerina, but for sure a dancer, one who could dance a multitude of dances and perhaps end up in Hollywood.
Shirley Temple was a hero to many girls of her time as the precocious little child star had talent coming out of her ears.  Beverly so loved Shirley that she had hopes that one day, she, too, could become a child actress or dancer and that it would lift her family out of the Great Depression.
Then as war clouds loomed in Europe, Beverly found out that she had bone cancer, osteosarcoma, a horrible disease that would keep her in the hospital and then eventually cause her doctor to remove her leg at her hip.
Her doctor having been a surgeon in World War I believed that ONLY removing the leg at the hip to rid the body of the cancer around her ankle would keep her alive that if he removed it at the knee, it might already be spreading through her body and would claim her life.
Apparently, the doctor was correct and as she recovered over the next year, she began drawing to keep her mind occupied and to remove the loss of her hoped-for dancing career.  As we know, the rest is history and the proof of her abilities appears on this page every single Wednesday as well as daily at the main blog.
Here we go, folks:

There are many artists who have actively striven to copy Beverly, reinterpreting her works as their own but never quite the same.  However, we do not see that as an ‘insult,’ no, it is a compliment to see that artists or art counterfeiters from a variety of countries in Eastern Europe and elsewhere believe that cranking out her paintings in massive numbers will bring them wealth.  So be it!
The paintings you find here on this page are all amazing, whether they feature birds at sunset or heartwarming deserts that bring emotional fire to ward off the morning mists flowing in from the Pacific Ocean.
Friends, thank you for joining me today; please visit us here every Wednesday as well as at the main blog seven days a week.  Beverly Carrick originals remain available for sale at her website and you can always contact us here at the blog should you have any questions about the availability of her paintings.
Amigos, God bless you for joining me today; please, visit me over at the main blog as we used to always say during the conclusion of each post, please, bring everyone YOU know to visit us at both our blogs.  What’s more, please leave comments and share your mind as to the greatness of Beverly—she would love to hear it were she still with us.
Adios.
